1. Cleanse and prime the natural lashes and tape the eye.
2. Agree the intensity with the client before you begin - decorative finishes cannot be softened afterwards.
3. Build the base set first, leaving marked lashes free.
4. Lift each lash from the strip at the base rather than mid-fibre.
5. Isolate a single natural lash and dip the base into a fresh glue dot.
6. Place on the top layer, mixing glitter and tinsel fibres through the same zone so both light qualities read.
7. Count placements per zone on both eyes.
8. Comb gently and cure fully.

• Separating glitter and tinsel into different zones - the tray's advantage is the two effects together. Mix them within the same placement area.
• Placing in shadow - both finishes depend entirely on catching light. Top layer only.
• Over-combing - dulls the decorative surface, particularly the tinsel fibres.
• Using silver on warm-toned clients without checking - cool silver against warm skin can read grey rather than bright. Preview against the client.
• Applying long before the event - decorative finishes peak in the first two weeks.

Should I place glitter and tinsel fibres separately or mixed?

Mixed, within the same zone - the point of the blend is that the diffuse sparkle gives a continuous shimmer while the tinsel punctuates it with sharper flashes. Separating them into different areas gives you two ordinary effects rather than the combined one.

Does tinsel catch on neighbouring lashes?

It can, because the fibre is stiffer and holds a straighter line than the surrounding lashes. Keep tinsel placements slightly apart from each other and advise the client to brush gently daily so nothing tangles as the set grows out.

Silver or white for a winter theme?

Silver reads as sparkle and catches light actively; white reads as a graphic colour block and holds its appearance regardless of lighting. For a snow-and-ice theme most artists use silver for the shimmer and add a small number of white lashes for contrast.

Will silver look grey on a client with warm skin?

It can, particularly under warm indoor lighting, where cool silver loses brightness against warm tones. Previewing against the client's skin under the lighting she will actually be in prevents the surprise, and a warmer tone is often the better recommendation.

How long before an event should I apply a decorative set?

Within a week or so of the date for best results. The fibre lasts as long as any other, but friction from washing and sleeping dulls the decorative surface, so a set applied three weeks ahead will not photograph the way it did on the day of application.
