Oil-Free Pre-Tint Cleansing for Optimal Colour Results

RefectoCil Micellar Eye Make-up Remover is an oil-free cleanser designed to remove eye make-up before tinting lashes and brows. Its micellar technology lifts make-up and skin lipids gently, without rubbing, leaving lashes strengthened and degreased so the tint that follows develops evenly and lasts longer. Because oily residue can interfere with tint uptake even when no make-up is visibly present, many artists use it as a standard prep step on every client, not only those wearing make-up that day.

Product details

Trend/Popularity: Clients increasingly expect a thorough, spa-quality prep routine as part of a tinting service, and a dedicated oil-free cleanser supports that expectation.
Ease & Speed: A single cotton pad application replaces multiple rounds of wiping with a generic makeup remover, streamlining the prep step before tinting begins.
Income Opportunity: Better tint uptake and longer-lasting colour from properly degreased lashes and brows reduces early touch-up requests, supporting client satisfaction and repeat bookings.

Any technician performing lash or brow tinting should use this as a standard pre-service prep product. Artists working with clients who wear eye make-up regularly will find it essential for a clean base before colour is applied. Studios wanting to standardize their prep routine across all clients, even those without visible make-up, can use it to consistently remove skin lipids that affect tint results.

The oil-free, micellar formula is specifically built not to interfere with the tinting step that follows.

Oil-free formula: Avoids leaving residue that could weaken tint adhesion, unlike an oil-based remover.
Micellar technology: Lifts make-up and lipids gently without rubbing, reducing irritation around the sensitive eye area.
150 ml bottle: Sized for repeated use as a standard prep step across many appointments.

Apply the remover to a cotton pad.
Gently remove eye make-up before tinting.
Use it even when the client isn't wearing make-up, as it also removes skin lipids to support the best tinting result.

Skipping this step when a client isn't wearing visible make-up: skin lipids can still interfere with tint uptake even without makeup present. Use it as a standard prep step regardless.
Rubbing vigorously instead of gently wiping: can irritate the sensitive eye area. Let the micellar technology do the work with light, gentle passes.
Moving straight to tinting without fully removing residue: leftover product can still affect even colour development. Check the area is fully clean before proceeding.
Using a heavily oil-based makeup remover beforehand and assuming this product will fully correct it: oily residue from another product can still interfere with tinting. Use this as the primary, oil-free cleansing step.
Skipping it on lash extensions clients assuming it's unnecessary: unless contraindicated by the extension adhesive, clean, degreased lashes remain important for tint services performed alongside natural lash areas.

Why would I use this on a client who isn't wearing any eye make-up that day?

Skin lipids and natural oils build up on lashes and brows regardless of make-up use, and those oils alone can interfere with even tint uptake. Using it as a universal prep step rather than only for made-up clients tends to give more consistent tint results.

Can this be used to remove waterproof mascara before tinting?

Micellar technology generally handles waterproof formulas well, though particularly stubborn waterproof mascara may need a couple of gentle passes with fresh cotton pads rather than one single wipe.

Does skipping this step and using a generic oil-based remover instead affect tint results?

Yes — oil-based removers can leave a residue that interferes with how evenly the tint develops, which is specifically why an oil-free, micellar formula is recommended as the pre-tint cleansing step.

Is it gentle enough to use directly on clients with sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers?

The formula is designed to be gentle without rubbing, but contact lens wearers should still remove lenses before any eye-area product is used, consistent with standard tinting prep practice.

How soon after using this remover can tinting begin?

Tinting can typically begin as soon as the area is visibly clean and dry, since the product is designed as an immediate pre-tint prep step rather than one requiring a waiting period.
