1. Cleanse and prime the natural lashes to strip oil, makeup and debris, then let them dry fully before you isolate.
2. Tape and map the eye, deciding where the longer lengths in the tray will sit before you place the first fan.
3. Isolate a single natural lash cleanly and confirm no neighbouring lash is caught.
4. Pick the fan up at its base and dip it into the adhesive — because the base is fine, use slightly more adhesive than you would with a larger-base fan.
5. Place the base on the isolated lash 0.5-1mm off the skin and hold briefly until it grabs, keeping the fan open and square to the lash.
6. Let the bond cure fully, then comb through with a clean spoolie to check that the fans have stayed open and evenly spaced.

• Using your usual adhesive dot — the fine base has less contact area than a wide-base fan, so an unchanged dot reads as premature shedding. Increase the dot slightly and confirm the whole bonded point is coated.
• Dipping too deep — soaking the fibres stiffens the fan and glues the tips together, which kills the fluffy finish. Dip only the bonded base point.
• Defaulting to D curl on every client — on flat or hooded lashes a D fan pokes forward. Read the growth angle and drop to CC, C or B where the lash lies flat.
• Placing fans at one fixed angle — identical placement flattens the texture the wide shape is meant to create. Vary the direction slightly across the set.
• Working straight from a cold, damp box — condensation on the tray makes pick-up unreliable. Let the box come up to room temperature before you start.

My 5D fans look flatter on the lash line than they do in the tray — what am I doing wrong?

Almost always adhesive travel: when the dip is too deep the glue wicks up between the fibres and closes the fan as it cures. Dip only the bonded point, and if the fan is already closing in the tweezer, re-pick rather than trying to spread it open on the lash.

Can I mix this tray with a narrow promade fan in the same set?

Yes, and it is a useful way to control weight: run the wide 5D through the middle and outer sections where fullness shows, and switch to a narrower fan on the inner corner where a wide span can look bulky. Keep the curl consistent between the two so the layers do not fight each other.

Why do I get better retention at 0.07 on some clients and not others, using the same technique?

Retention tracks the natural lash more than the fan: fine or previously chemically treated lashes carry a 5D 0.07 fan less comfortably than healthy medium lashes. On those clients, drop to a finer diameter in a higher fibre count for the same visual density instead of increasing adhesive.

How should I adjust when the room is very humid?

Humidity speeds the cure, so the base can set before the fan is fully seated, which reads as a weak bond later. Move to a slower adhesive with a longer working time rather than speeding up your placement, and refresh the adhesive dot more often as it skins over.

Is it worth keeping a second tray in a different curl, or can one curl cover most clients?

One curl covers a single styling approach, not a client list — B and C handle straight or downward-growing lashes, while CC and D suit lifted growth and doll-eye mapping. If you only stock one curl, expect to compensate with placement, which costs more time than holding a second tray.
