For most general studios, yes - 5D 0.05 covers the widest range of clients and produces the set most people book, and its curl and length range is complete enough to map a full set from one box. Specialists in mega-volume or hybrid work would choose differently, but as a single all-purpose spec it is hard to beat.

Why do my 0.05 fans clump when my 0.07 fans do not?

Wicking scales with fibre fineness, so the same dip depth delivers proportionally more adhesive into a 0.05 fan. Reduce the dip and refresh the glue dot a little more often - the technique change is small but it is the whole difference.

Can a client move from a 0.15 classic set straight to 5D 0.05?

In load terms it is usually comparable or lighter, so physically yes for healthy lashes. The practical obstacle is aftercare - a classic client will not have been cleansing to volume standards, and that is what determines whether the set survives the first cycle.

My 5D 0.05 sets look full at the base but thin at the tips - what causes that?

Length mapping, generally: if the fans are long relative to the natural lash, the tips fan out into empty space where there is nothing beside them. Shortening slightly or increasing placement density through that zone will close the tips up.

How much natural lash line should be visible between fans?

A little - enough that the set reads as individual lashes rather than a band, which is what separates a full set from a closed one. If you cannot see any lash line at all at 5D, you have placed more fans than the eye needs and the set will look heavy in photographs.
