A skilled lash artist explores the link between eye shape and lashing techniques. For example, lash experts do not recommend D curl lashes for hooded eyes. This is due to the fact that the extension is curled dramatically and will most likely touch your client's eyelid, causing irritation.

What is D curl?

D curl is intended to create a more dramatic look and is also advised for clients who wish to open up their eyes dramatically. The D curl is similar to the C curl, but it is curlier. They're especially good for clients who want a dramatic look and can also be used on clients who  have downward-angled lashes. These lashes will brighten and broaden your eyes while also creating a distinct curled look.

Using D curl lashes for hooded eyes or clients with upward-angle natural lashes, the extensions may prick the client's eyelids due to their dramatic upward curl. As a result, D curl is more suited to clients who have natural lashes with a downward angle. It will lift up their eyes., 

What are hooded eyes?

Hooded eyes are eyelids that do not have a crease. A hooded lid might look quite heavy as if it's "swallowing" the lash line beneath it. Within this category, there are variations, with some lids closed across the entire eye, some closed near the nose and more open at the outer corner, and some with a combination. Hooded eyes are a prevalent eye shape that is seen in celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Lawrence. As a result, the lower eyelids appear smaller. When hooded eyes are open, the eyelid is usually hidden behind the crease and retracts into it. For clients with hooded eyes, lash artists are advised to use the curliest lash available with the longest lengths of the lash positioned on the mid-outer eye.

Suitable eye shapes for D curl

D curl and CC curl are the most outstanding options for clients with open eyes who want a more dramatic impression (and a lot of volumes). D-curl is becoming more popular as more lift and prominent lash lines have become trendy. This curl will not let you down! It has the greatest lift. D-curls are most suited for close-set eyes, downturned eyes, prominent eyes, and monolids. For Close Set Eyes, a hybrid of two styles is recommended, using D-Curl on 75% of the length and CC-Curl on the remaining portion. For downturned eyes, to add lift to the corners, it is suggested to use CC-Curl on 75% of the eyelid and D-Curl on the remaining length. Whereas for prominent eyes, only D curls are sufficient to give a boost of drama. If applied with precision, d curls can also provide an open eye look to monolids.

Best lash extensions for hooded eyes:

It has been established that hooded eyes have an additional skin layer on the crease of the eyelids. This makes applying eye makeup a little more difficult. A lash artist should choose lash extensions that will give your client's eyes the illusion of depth for a flawless look. For hooded eyes, lash extensions that can reach past the hood of the eyelid before curling are perfect.

Curls such as L, L+, or M curls are best suited for hooded eyes rather than D curl lashes for hooded eyes since this range of curls will have a flat base with a lovely curl in the mid and the tip of the extension. The straight base allows the extension to fit flat against the natural lash, resulting in a stronger attachment and more comfort for your client. The straight base is important because it gives the lash extension a better surface to sit on and mix with natural eyelashes. This will create a strong link and increase the client's comfort.
